I never intended for this to end up where it has, but being grateful is an understatement.
Building this car has changed my life. My hard work and learning from it has gotten my foot in so many doors from racing it on TV to landing a spot in my current career. I wouldn't be where I am today if I never bought this car. It has allowed me to travel to places I would have never seen and do things I've only seen in magazines.
I purchased this Dodge Neon from its original owner in 2009 as a bright silver 2.0 SOHC manual car that had been lightly wrecked. I wanted a Honda CRX but the theft was at an all-time high and finding a clean one was a whole other issue. All my friends laughed and were embarrassed to ride with me. I found that these cars had an insane amount of support in every state but Oklahoma for whatever reason. I took to online forums and began researching how to make my lame little neon into something that wasn't so lame. Through the years its seen so many changes that most people don't realize it's even the same car. The 2.0 SOHC had to go and in place came a 2.4 DOHC engine from a Dodge Stratus. The engine currently is a 2001 Dodge Stratus block, 03 PT cruiser cylinder head, SRT4 neon piston/rod combo with ARP hardware, decked block and head, ARP head studs Crower Stage 2 SRT4 cams.Precision 5858 turbo, Custom tubular exhaust manifold, Custom center feed intake manifold, It's on e85 for fuel with FuelTech engine management. I knew I had to be different, especially in a time when originality is so limited. I decided to start cutting the car apart in my 1 car garage and was determined to rear-wheel drive swap the car. while I'm not the first to do so, I'm one of the very few who have driven the car after starting the project. The current setup is the same engine with a Jeep Liberty Wrangler bell housing, a Chevy Colorado Ma5 Transmission, a Chevy S10 clutch disk and pressure plate, a custom billet single mass flywheel based on Jeep liberty Flywheel, a custom aluminum drive shaft, a Ford Explorer narrowed 8.8 rear end, a universal 4 link, Qa1 double adjustable rear coil overs, Mustang II manual steering rack, Honda civic radiator, Acura TSX coil packs, Srt4 neon front coil overs, Srt4 hydro clutch master, Chevy Colorado slave cylinder, Dodge Shadow steering knuckles, Dodge Caravan front hubs, Ford Pinto style bump steer eliminators, and a lot of custom one-off items.
Enjoy my project, Reach out with any questions and remember to never give up... even when everyone else expects you to.
Thanks for coming to my page! My name is Tyler and as you can see I drive a 1998 dodge neon. I'm terrible at updating my various socials with car updates and progress so this web page will serve as an avenue for those posts.
